Pressure is the part people get wrong. Enough of it will take green growth off a cedar shingle and the top layer of the shingle with it, and the damage does not show until the next season. Cedar, vinyl, painted wood, brick and concrete each have a ceiling, and the job is to work below it.
On the Cape the usual culprits are algae and mould on the north-facing side, salt film on everything within sight of the water, and a winter of grit worked into a deck. Those come off with the right combination of pressure, detergent and dwell time, in that order.

Cape shingles and painted siding get a low-pressure detergent wash. High pressure on cedar raises the grain and takes years off the wall.

The green on the north side is alive. A biocide kills it so it does not come back in eight weeks looking exactly the same.

Plantings get rinsed and covered, and gutters and fixtures are checked before we start rather than explained afterwards.

When is the best time of year?

Can you get the green off the north side?
Yes. That is algae and it needs treating rather than simply rinsing, or it comes back within weeks.
Do you do salt rinsing on waterfront properties?
Yes, and on an exposed elevation it is worth doing more often than a full wash.
